The City of Lincoln was chartered in 1869 and took the last name of our sixteenth President, Abraham Lincoln. When established, the City was 220 in population. The population for 2005 is estimated at 1,040.

Lincoln is a fourth class city with a Mayor and four Alderman. Two Aldermen are elected from each ward, East and West. Each elected official serves two-year terms. The Board of Aldermen serve the legislative functions, while the Mayer performs the administrative oversite.
