Lincoln, located in Benton County in west-central Missouri, could easily be described as "The Front Door to the Twin Lakes Area of Lake of the Ozarks and Truman Lake". Truman Dam, located at Warsaw, 10 miles south of Lincoln, separates these two great bodies of water. Fishing, boating, swimming, water-skiing, sailing and camping are enjoyed by young and old alike on both of these premier lakes. Bass, crappie, bluegill and walleye are just a few of the fish to be pulled from these waters. Numerous fishing tournaments are held on both lakes. The spoonbill, a prehistoric looking fish, has its own special season in the spring from March 15 to April 30. It is not unusual for these fish to weigh in at 80+ pounds and contests for the biggest catch are held annually. One outstanding oddity about these fish is that they are only found in this area and China. Located between Lincoln and Warsaw, you'll find the largest fish hatchery in the State of Missouri! This impressive State Conservation Department facility is open to the public and has freed fishing for 15 year olds and younger with pole and bait included. Hunting is also extremely popular in our area due to the timbered, rolling hills making up a large part of the area surrounding Lincoln. White-tailed deer, wild turkey, duck, quail and small game abound in the area. Additionally, since Truman Lake is a Corps lake, approximately 300,000 acres of public lands surround the lake creating great habitat for all kinds of wildlife. Perhaps one of the most relaxing hunts around is the hunt for that golf ball you just hit at one of our beautiful, challenging holes in Warsaw, Clinton, Sedalia or other nearby towns. And, of course, there is always "hunting" for that particular treasure at one of the local flea markets or antique shops. There's available income in the area provided by manufacturing plants and numerous types of businesses. There are several large manufacturing plants within commuting distance in Sedalia and Clinton. Since tourism is the number 2 industry in Missouri, many entrepreneurs are establishing their own small business while still enjoying the "country lifestyle". Lincoln is located on busy U.S. Highway 65, just south of I-70 and Sedalia, Missouri (home of the State Fair each August) and within a couple of hours drive to prominent cities such as Branson, Columbia, Kansas City or Springfield. To the northwest of Lincoln you will find the prairies and to the south and east the Ozarks Hills. Lincoln is the smallest community in the state to have its own "grass strip" airport. Plus, a new airport 3 miles south of Lincoln will accommodate larger aircraft. 3,300' concrete landing strip, runway lighting, fuel service and a terminal building. Why are so many people moving to Lincoln and the surrounding area? Well, maybe a few of the reasons are; Pleasant four-season weather, Lincoln has an updated central sewer system large enough to handle the expected growth for the next 20 years. During 2006, the Lincoln central water system is being upgraded to also handle the anticipated growth rate. Homes are available for the young family and the retired folks. We have day care facilities for the young ones and "Meals on Wheels" for the elderly. Lincoln has two baseball diamonds in our large park grounds that are busy day and night during the summer season. We have truck & tractor pulls, rodeos and parades! Yes, Lincoln is a small rural community at the edge of the Ozarks, but it's a fantastic place to raise your family, work, play and retire! Come for a visit and stay for a lifetime! |
